Has anyone missed me? No? will there you go. Things haven’t been all that interesting lately but I’ll make the best of what I have (as always). I’ve been flat stick with the Masters essay recently and that was just the most amazing experience. I won’t make the obligatory ‘oh it was terrible’ comments that I invariably do because this time it isn’t true. My brain just buzzed. It felt like electricity and it was going at a million miles an hour. I was writing about the dramatic unities and I will have to own that I neither knew nor cared about them previously. Now I think of how they apply in daily life. It’s eating my brain. It’s great. I think I could almost imagine doing this stuff permanently. Ohhh that’s a big call.

I finally wrote in the group diary last night after a hiatus of 3 months. When I did I couldn’t stop. I babbled on for 13 pages and drew on each of them. I have always believed that for the full sensory experience the written page should also incorporate art of some form. This may be a little naive but there you are. I got out things that I don’t yet feel able to place here. We’ll see.

I spent this evening with my very dear friend Rachael. When I say dear she has been with me since kindergarten. I truly adore her and she is one of the people I want at my graveside. That’s an odd thing to say and a morbid one to. But I have thought about this before now. You have to ask yourself who you would really like to remember you after you are gone. Who would you like your life to have mattered to? In the end we only have each other, I say and it is our relationships with others that defines us.

Actually had a random day of seeing people. Saw two Christmas Carol people and one friend from college. It was really nice.

I’ll be back to work tomorrow. Really unsure if I can drag myself there to be honest. Training people again on the morrow. Beats the heck out of being on the phones.

Any who, I’m off to read a bit and maybe watch some of Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads. (a little indulgence the other day).

Bless you all and if you aren’t having fun remember you and you alone make it fun.

Also go see comedy festival stuff. J

the pace of the world

Hey ho lovely day. Hot and mucky sucky day. One of the bad things of having a high metabolism is the not being able to cope with the sun too well when it is hot. Much sweat and brain running slowly. It sucks a bit. All my friends for whom the high metabolism isn't a problem think I suck so life is a list of trade offs.
Went to see the current production of Rent going on in Melbourne last night. Production was fine. Some really good performances and lovely singing. Still there was the whole music theatre crowd there which I do find a little difficult to cope with. Lots of large belts and hair on the girls and pencil pants and denim on the lads. If it makes them happy good for them. It probably didn't help that I went with my dear friend Em who can be deeply inappropriate at times. Bless her.

Training again today. Oh tired tired tired. I was considering something someone was saying at work the other day. Consider what you would like to see on your gravestone or in your eulogy at your funeral. What do you want to be remembered for? The following principle is to work towards that. I’ve heard of worse ways of approaching life and it has really got me a‘thinking. What path does one really want to travel down and why are you doing the things you are doing? An unexamined life is what I may have been leading. I can see the first glimmers of dawn on the horizon and at least I’ve started considering which way I want to go. I must turn these enterprises of moment to the keel and regain for them the name of action. Purpose and direction are beginning to form………………..I hope.

What dreams may come

Well I should make a go of this. I went to class yesterday and am now very conscious of being older than the vast majority of my classmates. I'm very worried about being the bloody mature age student. A couple of years ago I would have instantly despised a person who turned up to a seminar in a suit. I had to come straight from work so there was no real alternative but still...The actual work looks like it will be good. Very challenging. Have only begun to look at qualitative research and dry doesn't really begin to encompass the material. The stuff on drama itself is really engaging but ohhhhh my! the research reading is going to be a slog. If I'm going to be 'Dr Nic' this is something which has to be traversed. Conducting a lot of training at work at the moment. At least it is away from the phones but this is all a mean to an end with my study. Something that came up today is the idea of 'the real world'. While we were at uni everywhere else was the real world. Now in the office everywhere else is the real world. I'm beginning to suspect that the real world doesn't exist. That this is all some sort of grand hoax. The real world is the white deer that we all look for I think. Recently I saw Billy Connelly on the telly and he was a man who seemed to be at peace with his place in the world. Not with the world per se but his place in it. The cynic in me says 'well money would help' but beyond that he does seem to really 'get it'. What I'm trying to get at is that he didn't seem concerned about what was the real world and what wasn't. He was where he was and believes what he says. It always amazes me that to see people completely at home with themselves.

Enter Blogg

The first of Blogg. Well this is interesting. Never done this before but still. We'll see how we go. A day of bits today. Arose late and started reading texts for tomorrows class. MA in Drama beckons. Well it should be considerably more interesting that work at the office. Not quite sure that mentally I’m up for it but we shall see. Nick, bless him, took me to Monash to get the rest of the readings before he trundled off into the bush to see his folks. I came back and started to read and fell asleep on the floor amongst the remains of the flat. All the kitchen stuff now being the lounge for the renovations which start tomorrow. Should be fun. Need to shunt off to bed now. Busy day on the morrow.
